Comas Keeps Pressure on Audi
Erik Comas still believes that Audi will need to have problems if his Pescarolo is to beat the Champion Racing Audi R8s ahead
The Pescarolos started the Le Mans 24 Hours as the fastest cars on the circuit, and have maintained that promise throughout the first half of the race. Reliability and collisions have blighted their bid to win, but neither the team nor the drivers have given up hope.
Throughout the night, Erik Comas drove hard, five seconds per lap faster than the two leading Champion Racing Audis, in a bid to put the leaders under pressure.
His car was delayed by a broken gearbox which, under Le Mans regulations introduced last year, needed to be repaired rather than replaced, and they have been working to recover the lost ground.
Comas told Autosport-Atlas: "I think we need a little more than five and a half hours to make up the time, but the car is running well and we will try to put them under pressure. I was wondering whether or not we could do another stint.
"I am still keeping a little bit of a margin but we want to recover some of the time that we lost with the transmission. I don't think we can recover all the time without the Audi running into some problem. We have to get as close as possible."
