Brabham: Corvette are Faster
Aston Martin driver David Brabham believes that mails rivals Corvette could have be sand-bagging at last weekend's pre-race Le Mans test, and they will be much closer during the race itself
In an exclusive interview with Autosport-Atlas, Brabham said that he believed that Corvette will be much closer to the Aston than the four seconds per lap difference shown last weekend.
Le Mans organiser the Automobile Club de l'Quest (ACO) recommends that GT1 cars do not lap faster than 3 minutes 55 seconds, but Brabham believes that Corvette were cautious because they feared organisers might add penalties to slow them down before the race.
Brabham told-Autosport-Atlas: "The five seconds we have in hand is massively flattering to us. There is no doubt Corvette can go much faster. They will be competitive and I have no reason to believe it won't be a close battle between us and Corvette though I'm not sure who will be the faster car.
"There was a lot of confusion on how fast GT1 cars should be going. Organisers don't think GT1 cars should be going faster than 3m 55s but our information was that we could go out as fast as possible for test day and in the race - with any penalties to be considered for next year's event.
"Basically we think that Corvette stuck to that at 3m 55s area but we just went out and did our programme. Their cars are faster than their times showed."
