Pirro pays tribute to Audi team

Emanuele Pirro praised the efforts of the entire Audi team after taking their revolutionary diesel-powered R10 to victory at Le Mans

"This is an achievement of a large number of people," said Pirro, who shared the winning car with Frank Biela and Marco Werner.

"We only have 12 cylinders in the car but there were a lot of people who pushed this car and this engine until Le Mans and then to the victory.

"There has been so much effort and development to make this possible and I can only say I wanted to be part of it so badly when I was told this adventure would arrive.

"I couldn't even ask God to (let us) win, I just asked him to be here. But God has been kind and granted us victory and I cannot believe it."

Today's result makes both Pirro and Biela four-time winners of the legendary event.

"Every single victory at Le Mans is a very special thing so of course it is something very, very special," said Biela.

"But because of the fact that we came with a completely new car and the first time with the TDI engine I think that made it even nicer and even sweeter.

"We are really, really proud. It was a very important step for Audi and also for the team and the drivers so we are very happy."
