A time of 1m22.3968s in the top 10 shoot-out placed Tander a little under a tenth of a second faster than front row partner Shane van Gisbergen's Stone Brothers Ford.

David Reynolds was the quickest driver from the Ford Performance Racing stable as he equalled his career-best qualifying result in third place, ahead of champion Jamie Whincup (Triple Eight Holden) and Steve Owen - one of three Dick Johnson Racing cars to make the top 10 in the Ford team's strongest showing of 2012 so far.

Points leader Will Davison (FPR) was quickest in both Friday practice and the first qualifying session, which set the top 10 shoot-out field and decided the order from 11th backwards, but could only manage sixth place in the battle for pole.

Dick Johnson driver James Moffat and FPR's Mark Winterbottom both had their times deleted for cutting the Turn 4 chicane, so will share row five, behind Steve Johnson (DJR) and Craig Lowndes (Triple Eight).
