Lewis Hamilton says he feels no relief in leading F1 title battle

Lewis Hamilton insists he takes no relief from snatching the Formula 1 world championship lead from Nico Rosberg with his victory in the Singapore Grand Prix

The Briton turned a 22-point deficit against Mercedes team-mate Rosberg in to a three-point advantage after his rival retired with a car failure.

GP analysis: Did Mercedes make Hamilton's win harder?

But although the result has blown open the fight for the world title, Hamilton says that there are no grounds for him to feel comforted that the points situation has turned around so much in the last few races.

"You would think that's the case but, at the moment, I'm not sitting here thinking I'm relieved," said Hamilton.

"All year I've had that gap and all year I've had to be chasing it and catching up.

"And then it's gone again. So I know what could happen.

"I came here thinking I've got to get those seven points [the difference between first and second in a race].

"Then getting 25, it has changed things a little bit but in my mind I still want to get those next seven next time out. And that's the mindset I'm continuing with."

NO MOMENTUM SWING

Although Hamilton has won the last two races to overhaul Rosberg, he thinks it is wrong to suggest that the title momentum has now swung back in his favour.

"Maybe it's the start, but momentum is not something I generally think about because it can be snatched away.

"Look at Nico, he has had good results and momentum from that but one DNF and it changes things.

"So I don't really look at momentum because you just have to take it one race at a time.

"You don't know what's coming up. I'm happy that I'm back to being at my best, getting those poles, maximising those races.

"I want to make sure these next five races, if I don't do any more races in my whole life as good, then these next five have to be the ones."
