Courtney takes Van Diemen to the top
Works Van Diemen driver James Courtney won the first race of the 2000 Slick 50 Formula Ford Zetec championship on Sunday
He won from pole, followed by team mate Robert Dahlgren, demonstrating Van Diemen's return to the top of the FFord game after a couple of relatively lean years.
The last two British FFord champions - Jenson Button and Nicolas Kiesa - have been Haywood Mygale pilots. The best Haywood Mygale SJ00 was that of Alan Van der Merwe, who had come up from 5th on the grid.
Marino Franchitti was unlucky not to finish higher than the tenth he was eventually classified. The Van Diemen driver, brother of Champ Car racer Dario, got away badly from the line after qualifying a surprise fourth, and was forced to chase from thereon in.
