Cockell muscles his way into fifth in Autosport National Driver Rankings

Modified Fords racer Dave Cockell has stormed up to fifth place in Autosport's National Driver Rankings after his latest two victories at Donington Park last weekend.

The Escort Cosworth driver won both of the races as the one-make series made a guest appearance on the British GT support bill.

His latest successes have taken his 2022 tally so far to six and allowed him to move 17 places up the leaderboard.

He is the highest-ranked driver to have improved, with the top four remaining unchanged - and table-topper Lucky Khera missed out on the chance to extend his lead after being defeated in both of the Ferrari Challenge UK contests at Snetterton over the weekend.

One place behind Cockell is BMW M3 pilot Dave Griffin, who has also moved onto six wins for the year with another Pre-'93 Touring Car victory at Oulton Park.

But he was denied the chance to gain more than the six places he improved by as the second Cheshire race was cancelled following delays to the timetable.

Another driver to move into the top 10 of the winners' table is SEAT driver Peter Baxter. He was one of a number of double winners at Kirkistown, his success coming in the Saloon/GT category, to gain 31 spots and move into seventh.

A host of drivers in action at the Thruxton British Touring Car fixture also boosted their position on the leaderboard, including double BTCC winner Josh Cook - who has moved into 25th place.

The highest-ranked of these drivers is Nelson King who, despite his Mini Challenge Trophy unbeaten run coming to an end, still bagged two further victories to jump from outside the top 50 into 10th.

Also on the rise was British Formula 4 dominator Alex Dunne - the Irishman picking up two more wins in Hampshire to move into 16th spot.

Away from Thruxton, another driver to have enjoyed an impressive start to the season has been Ginetta GT Academy racer Marc Warren.

He continued his unbeaten streak at Donington and therefore leapt into 11th in the rankings, having not featured in last week's winners' table.

All car races in UK and Ireland are included except qualification/repechage, consolation and handicap races. No races in other countries.

Class wins are only counted when there are at least six starters in the class. Only classes divided by car characteristics are included. Classes divided by driver characteristics such as ability, professional status, age, experience (for example rookie or Pro-Am classes) are not included.

Where there is a tie, overall wins take precedence. Where there is still a tie, average grid size for a driver’s wins determines the order.
