Scott gets Hornish Jr's Richard Petty Motorsport Sprint Cup ride
Brian Scott has been named as Sam Hornish Jr's replacement at Richard Petty Motorsports for the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup
Scott has raced in the second-tier series for six seasons without winning a race, but has finished in the top 10 in the standings each year, including fourth in 2014.
He has also made 17 Sprint Cup appearances over the last three years with Richard Childress Racing, taking pole at Talladega in 2014.
In 2015, his best result from 10 Sprint Cup starts was 12th at Kansas.
"I am thrilled to go Sprint Cup Series racing full-time next year and to do it with such an iconic team," Scott said.
"When you think NASCAR racing, you think Petty. I'm glad to now be a part of that legacy.
"I had a lot of fun competing in the Xfinity Series for the last seven years, and I'm excited to take the next step.
"I ran some races in the Sprint Cup Series the last few years and learned a lot.
"I feel like we are in a good position to compete for the Rookie of the Year next year and continue the consistency that RPM built over the last few years."
Scott, who will partner Aric Almirola, will turn his first laps for the team in Monday's Goodyear tyre test at Homestead.
Two-time IndyCar champion Hornish's future is unclear.
He switched to NASCAR full-time in 2008, and claimed three top 10 finishes this year on his way to 26th in the standings.
