Qualifying: Jarrett on pole

Dale Jarrett got back down to business on Friday, taking his fourth pole position of the season at Dover Downs in Delaware, as NASCAR got back to racing following the terrorist attacks in America 10 days ago

Jarrett's Ford recorded a speed of 154.919mph around the one-mile high-banked oval ensuring his top slot for Sunday's race. After qualifying, Jarrett, currently third in the Winston Cup standings, donated his $5000 prize money for the pole to the American Red Cross Relief Fund.

Jarrett qualified on pole for the race at Dover Downs in June, but the 44-year-old from North Carolina wasn't expecting the same result this time round.

"We didn't really know we had the car for pole," he said. "We made just a couple of slight changes. This is one track I enjoy racing at, but the qualifying lap is really pretty exciting."

Reigning Winston Cup champion Bobby Labonte placed his Pontiac on second spot with a lap of 154.872mph.

Dale Earnhardt Jr was third fastest, with the two Rickys, Rudd and Craven, holding places four and five. Kenny Wallace rounds out the top six.

Winston Cup standings leader Jeff Gordon couldn't quite hook up his Chevrolet at Dover. His lap of 152.86mph won only good enough for 23rd on the grid.
