Nemechek wins Dura Lube
It took him 180 starts, but the Dura Lube 300 was Joe Nemechek's first NASCAR win
The Chevrolet driver won the 300-lap race under a caution flag at the New Hampshire International Speedway ahead of rookie Tony Stewart.
Nemechek led for the final 70 laps and benefited from the caution on lap 298 when Elliott Sadler and Hut Stricklin made contact. He becomes the 11th different winner in the Winston Cup series this season.
Afterwards, Nemechek, who had previously won at the track during his Busch Series-title year in 1992, said, 'I don't know how to explain this. This is just an unbelievable feeling.
'I've got to thank the Lord for watching over everybody today and helping us make the right calls. Tony Glover [crew chief] has done an awesome job.
'He's a good coach. He was coaching me hard on the radio there at the end.'
Nemechek's victory was also his first top-10 finish in a Winston Cup race at the circuit.
With less than 10 laps to go, Nemechek's 3.81-second lead had been reduced to less than one second, held up by the lapped cars of Mark Martin and Bill Elliott and with Stewart drawing right up behind him
Nemechek managed to overtake them, but on lap 283 rookie Elliott Sadler, Wally Dallenbach and Ken Schrader were involved in a second-turn incident that brought out the ninth caution flag.
No one pitted while the flag was out, so when the race restarted with 13 laps left, Stewart was close behind.
Nemechek restarted well though, and managed get a commanding lead as he exited Turn 2.
With just 10 laps to go, Jimmy Spencer crashed forcing another caution, but after that restart another crash put the flags out again.
This time the race failed to restart and Nemechek had his long-awaited victory.
