Martin's team fined $50,000

Mark Martin's team has been fined a hefty $50,000 for a height discrepency found after the veteran's win in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte on Sunday

As is always the case in such circumstances, the Roush Racing driver kept his win despite his Ford Taurus being an eighth of an inch below the minimum height.

Crew chiefs usually bear the brunt of such fines. Martin's crew chief, Ben Leslie, said: "With the race being so long and all of the adjustments that are required in this type of race, an eighth of an inch is not a lot. On top of that we had some cooling problems to work on throughout the race, and between that and the normal adjustments it's hard not to lose some height. It didn't have an impact on the outcome of the race at all.

"Still, NASCAR has to draw the line somewhere and we didn't measure up to that line. It's a steep fine, but those are the rules of the game."

Although $50,000 is one of NASCAR's biggest ever fines, Martin did claim a $1million bonus for winning at Charlotte, his first victory in over two years.
