Local claims Busch pole

Mexico City local Jorge Goeters made history by beating a field of regular Busch series drivers to pole in the first ever NASCAR event held outside of the United States, today.

Goeters, who has raced in the Mexico Truck Series and Indy Lights, gave the crowd at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez something to cheer about, lapping the 2.5 mile road course, a fixture on the Champ Car calendar, in 1 minute 27.696.

Robby Gordon was fractionally behind Goeter in second, just ahead of defending Busch champion Martin Truex Jr. Road specialist Boris Said will start tomorrow's race just behind this group, in fifth position.
