Kenseth wins Phoenix Busch race

Matt Kenseth won tonight's Busch race at Phoenix International Raceway, beating 2006 champion Kevin Harvick to the flag, after starting the race from pole

It was Kenseth's 20th Busch career win - and his second of the 2006 season.

And Kenseth could only hope he can emulate the feat in tomorrow's Nextel Cup event, where he trails Jimmie Johnson by 17 points in the Chase for the Cup.

Kenseth battled with Harvick in the latter stages of the race, fending off the champion for the final ten laps.

The duo were followed by another Chase contender, Denny Hamlin, in third place, with Clint Boyer and Carl Edwards taking fourth and fifth respectively.

The result means Harvick will not be able to break the Busch series record of ten wins in a single season. He currently has nine victories, with one round remaining in the season.

The race proved difficult for the two Indianapolis 500 winners and NASCAR rookies Juan Pablo Montoya and Sam Hornish Jr.

The duo have not entered the same race since the 2000 Indy event, which was won by the Colombian, while Hornish emulated the feat earlier this year.

In stock car, though, the two have some way to go. Montoya, in his third Busch event, beat debutant Hornish in qualifying - the Colombian qualifying 11th with Hornish in 27th position.

Both had an unremarkable race, though, Hornish crashing out on lap 184 and ending 35th, while Montoya too damaged his car - but made it all through the 203 laps to finish 20th.
