Injured Park to miss Richmond
NASCAR star Steve Park has pulled out of this weekend's Winston Cup race on the Richmond oval, following his Busch series crash at Darlington on Saturday
Park, who drives for Dale Earnhardt Inc, suffered bruising to the brain in the bizarre accident, when his Chevrolet Monte Carlo suddenly veered left during a caution period. He was collected by the following car of Larry Foyt.
Kenny Wallace will step in at Richmond, just as he did for last Sunday's Southern 500 Winston Cup round at Darlington.
"I'm following doctor's orders right now, and if he says time is what I need, then that's what I'll do," said Park.
Along with the head injury, he also suffered a separated collarbone and a bruised neck, but is expected to make a full recovery. The cause of the accident has yet to be discovered, although steering failure or a broken axle have been suggested.
Park has been sidelined before in the Winston Cup. He broke a thigh and collarbone at Atlanta in 1998 and missed 15 races. How many races he will sit out this time is not yet clear.
