Ford wants aero break as Chevy dominates
Dale Jarrett finished second in a Ford at Las Vegas, but no other car make has been able to win a race this season except for Chevrolet. Michael Waltrip, Steve Park and Jeff Gordon have put Chevrolet in victory lane for the first three races of the season.
"I'm not very happy that they're 3-0 since I drive a Ford, but I think we've got a little bit of an aero problem," Jarrett said. "That's what I saw whenever I would get close enough to some of those guys. When I was out front, it wasn't too bad, but as we got into racing and in traffic, we just don't have enough downforce on the front to make the car balanced and that's our problem right now.
"We've done everything we can do to the Ford and that's just what we have. We can't go in there and do anything to the front end that would make it any better, so you have to work with the chassis. We're kind of tapped in what we can do as far as the Taurus goes right now."
Jarrett doesn't believe that NASCAR will make a rules change that could help make the Ford a little more equal before next weekend's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
"I can't imagine there would be one before Atlanta," he said. "Normally Atlanta is a place where we go to the wind tunnel since it's close by. I don't know if that's going to happen, but maybe then we can evaluate.
"We're not sitting at the door step begging them to do anything. These are the rules right now and we're gonna have to continue to try to make our cars a little bit better and make the right adjustments at the end. We're not going there with the idea that we're already defeated. We're going to work hard and see what we can do."
