Enrique Bernoldi Q&A
While all eyes were on the flying Luciano Burti, the luckiest man at Hockenheim was probably Enrique Bernoldi, on whose Arrows the flying Prost more or less landed. Somehow Enrique kept his car on the road and even successfully managed to get back to the grid for the restart, where the team made repairs. He eventually finished eighth, his best result of the year. While other rookies have been making the headlines the Brazilian has quietly got on with the job this year, out-qualifying team mate Jos Verstappen six times out of 12. His race performances have been less impressive, but he has been let down by reliability problems to some degree. Adam Cooper spoke to him after his lucky escape in Hockenheim
"I was a little behind. I was going to overtake Burti and then I couldn't go more to the inside because Verstappen was on the inside. And I just saw the car taking off and I had to brake. And I thought that his car was going to land right on my car, so I was lucky that it landed a little bit in front, and I could brake and pass through."
"A lot of pieces. My engine cover was broken, and my rear wing as well."
"Yes, I stopped the car because my engine stalled, and then suddenly I could get the engine running again."
"I didn't realise the wheel was behind. Just when the engine started and I started racing again. Everything was vibrating, so I was lucky!"
"They just looked for any damage they couldn't see straight away. They changed the rear wing - because that was broken - the front wing, and the engine cover. And I think some mechanical parts were not so good either, because the steering was not straight any more."
"I thought at the beginning that maybe he could get hurt, but when I was coming to the stadium I was very slow, behind the queue again, and I looked in the big monitors and I saw that he was walking again."
"The start was not so good, I have to say, but then after I was recovering and overtaking people."
"Yes, I have to say it's getting easier. I don't make so many mistakes like in the beginning, and especially on the fast circuits that I like, I've done some not so bad races."
"I'm feeling quite at home at Arrows. I have a very good relationship with my engineer and all the people that work on my car, and with Tom. Everything's going pretty well so far."
"I think so. I have to say that I will be very happy if I can stay here, because I think the team will have a very good package for next year."
"The main thing is for me to get some experience and learn. For sure I would like to get some points. If I can get some points I'll have a reason to be very happy."
"Yes, I would say it's part of the dream that's come true in a way. Every driver when he starts a racing career when he's young wants to be in F1. So I'm very happy to be here and I'm enjoying it quite a lot, even if at first it's a little bit difficult. That's why I have to learn a lot so I hope that I can be successful in F1. This is the second part of my dream."
