Earnhardt Jr declared fit for Talladega
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been given he go-ahead to compete in the EA Sports 500 at Talladega this weekend. NASCAR confirmed the expected news after reviewing a report from Dr. Jerry Petty, a Charlotte-based neurosurgeon, who examined Earnhardt on Monday.
Earnhardt suffered a minor concussion and a sprained right foot when he crashed his Dale Earnhardt Inc Chevrolet Monte Carlo flat on the driver's side against the wall at Dover International Speedway during the closing stages of the MBNA 400 last weekend. He was briefly unconscious following the impact, but says his injuries shouldn't slow him down.
"My foot gets a lot better every day," Dale Jr. told the Associated Press. "I usually use all of this ice to keep the Budweiser cold, but I've stayed off my feet, kept ice on it, and the swelling and soreness is much less than it was on Monday."
Earnhardt Jr. will be aiming for his fifth consecutive victory at the fearsome high-banked Superspeedway, as the DEI squad looks to extend its domination on restrictor-plate tracks.
