Compton seals McClure drive for Daytona
Stacy Compton has agreed a one-race deal to drive the Morgan-McClure team's No. 4 car at Daytona International Speedway this weekend
The McClure team is currently without a full-time driver for the car after it sacked veteran Mike Skinner before the last race at Sears Point.
Compton had been favourite to earn the drive on a full-time basis, but it appears that his contract with Tad Geschickter to run in the Busch Series will prevent him from doing so. Compton returned to the secondary division this year after two years racing for Mark Melling in the Winston Cup.
The driver has made 87 Winston Cup starts, most of them in Melling's under-funded cars. He did, however, win both poles at Talladega in 2001 and has shown aptitude on the big tracks.
The 4 team has run well only in brief flashes this season and has not qualified well. Road racer Johnny Miller drove the car at Sonoma, the only race since Skinner was discharged. The team has a provisional spot available if needed.
