Busch beats Gordon
Kurt Busch resisted the challenge of Jeff Gordon to win the NASCAR Nextel Cup event at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday.
Busch scored his second win of the season in his Roush-run Ford Taurus, keeping Gordon's Chevrolet challenge at bay despite two late yellow flags.
"It was great to be able to challenge him [Gordon]," said Busch. "He's been so good lately it seems that if you want to win a race you have to beat Jeff Gordon."
Gordon said: "I didn't know if we had a second place car, but we were real good on restarts. I would have had to give him a pretty big nudge to get the win, and we weren't going to do that."
Polesitter Ryan Newman finished third in his Dodge, having led much of the early going. He complained his handling worsened as the race wore on. Reigning champion Matt Kenseth was fourth, ahead of former champ Tony Stewart.
Dale Earnhardt Jr started the race but was forced to hand over to a replacement driver, Martin Truex Jr, due to the after-effects of his fiery ALMS crash last weekend. Truex was classified 31st after spinning into the wall, but at least the points he scores goes towards Earnhardt's tally.
