Bristol: Busch wins at last
Kurt Busch, currently the fastest man in the NASCAR Winston Cup, finally got the victory he had been promising since the season began. Having run at the front virtually everywhere and registered three close second places, he led the last 97 laps of the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway to score his first win of 2003
Series points leader Matt Kenseth was second but Busch has closed in on his Roush team-mate and has jumped from sixth to second in the standings.
"We were very optimistic when the season ended last year," said Busch. "To continue that this year, with the new downforce changes, and to go forward, is just a testament to the technology we have and the group we have to work with.
"It's just a matter of keeping things in perspective and doing the things we need to go forward each week."
It was a stellar day overall for the Roush cars, with Busch first, Kenseth second, Ricky Rudd fourth, and Greg Biffle fifth. Atlanta-winner Bobby Labonte's Interstate Batteries Chevrolet.
