Valles wins super final for LFC

Adrian Valles won the €100,000 prize on offer by winning the first-ever Superleague Formula super final at Magny-Cours on Sunday

Thanks to their podium finishes in the two 45-minutes races, the cars of Liverpool (Adrian Valles), AC Milan (Giorgio Pantano), Anderlecht (Yelmer Buurman), Olympiacos (Davide Rigon), Corinthians (Antonio Pizzonia, who took the place of Tottenham's Craig Dolby, whose car was stuck in sixth car and couldn't start) and FC Basel (Max Wissel) formed the grid for the quickfire eight-lapper.

From the rolling start, Valles leapt into the lead, ahead of Pantano, Buurman, Rigon, Pizzonia and Wissel. Pizzonia outbraked Rigon for fourth at the hairpin on the opening lap, then attacked Buurman, passing him at Courba Grande at the start of lap two. Buurman re-attacked at the hairpin soon after, but failed.

The race's first casualty was Rigon, who slowed as he started lap three, and only got back up to speed after he'd lost a huge chunk of time.

Valles looked strong out front, pulling away from Pantano and leading by 2secs by lap three. He set fastest lap on laps four and six to emphasise his dominance. He won by 4.8secs.

Pantano finished second, ahead of Pizzonia, Buurman, Wissel and the delayed Rigon.
