Enge wins the season finale

Tomas Enge won the final A1 Grand Prix race of the season for the Czech Republic, due to a superb start and great pit work by his team

Enge made a perfect start to the Feature Race when the red lights went out, moving up from seventh on the grid to fourth by the end of the first lap, and then moved up to second, when the entire field went into the pits on the third lap due to a safety car period.

When racing resumed, Enge made passed Team Malaysia's sprint race winner Alex Yoong around the outside of the tricky Turn 1 to take the lead. From that point on, Enge pulled away from Yoong to win by nearly seven seconds at the chequered flag.

The former IRL racer's maiden victory in the series means that the Czech Republic becomes the eighth nation to win a race in the inaugural season of the World Cup of Motorsport.

Yoong, having taken his first victory in the series earlier in the day by winning the sprint race, was elated with second place, which moved his team into fifth in the final championship standing.

Ryan Briscoe secured his best finish since joining A1 Grand Prix at Laguna Seca last month, taking the final podium position for Team Australia.

Briscoe comfortably beat arch-rival New Zealand to the podium, having a 16-second advantage over Matt Halliday at the chequered flag.

Team Pakistan scored their best finish of the season and their first points since the opening round at Brands Hatch with fifth place. Adam Kahn also benefited from slick pit-work during the safety car period to move up the order.

Nicolas Lapierre put in a superb comeback drive for Team France, after leaving the pits last because of a sticking left-rear wheel. He passed Canada's Patrick Carpentier on the penultimate lap. Carpentier finished seventh.

Sprint Race top-five finishers Michael Devaney and Ananda Mikola were involved in a huge smash on the second lap, which caused the safety car period that helped Enge leap up the order.

Devaney's Irish car went into the sweeping Turn 7 fractionally infront of Mikola's Indonesia's car. However, Mikola appeared to understeer slightly while running alongside and hit Devaney.

Mikola's front-left hit Devaney's right-rear wheel sending the Irishman into a series of rolls through the gravel trap. Both got out their cars uninjured although they then gestured at each other strongly when they got out of the cars.

Sprint race podium finishers Darren Manning and Salvador Duran had their chances of victory effectively ended when they were awarded drive-through penalties for jump starts. Duran's Mexico entry fared better, finishing eighth, with Manning coming home 15th.
