The Gresini rider reeled in Bagnaia before his rival crashed to continue his impressive start to the season, as he closed the gap to the top of the standings on leader Fabio Quartararo and second-place rider Aleix Espargaro.
Jack Miller took second place for Ducati ahead of Aprilia’s Espargaro who claimed his third consecutive podium, just ahead of Quartararo in fourth place at his home event, which has seen the Yamaha rider’s championship lead trimmed back to four points over Espargaro.
It was a nightmare race for Suzuki duo Alex Rins and Joan Mir who both crashed out, on the first race weekend since Suzuki signalled its intention to leave the series at the end of 2022.
That has thrown the rider market wide open with both Rins and Mir looking at their options for next year.
In the latest Tank Slappers Podcast, Autosport's Lewis Duncan and Motorsport.com's Oriol Puigdemont look back at the French GP to analyse all the action both on and off the track as well as dissect Suzuki leaving MotoGP.
