Silverstone MotoGP: Marquez beats Vinales to fastest time in FP3
Marc Marquez edged out Maverick Vinales by three thousandths of a second to top the third MotoGP practice session for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone
Suzuki rider Vinales led for much of the session, and had just reclaimed top spot back from Cal Crutchlow with two minutes remaining when Marquez posted a 2m00.944s lap on his Honda - becoming the first rider to dip below the 2m01s mark this weekend.
Vinales went on another flyer at the very end of the session and fell just 0.003s short of matching Marquez's time.
Friday pacesetter Andrea Iannone crashed at Farm inside the final 10 minutes but was able to return on his spare Ducati and beat the home favourite Crutchlow to third place at the chequered flag.
Jorge Lorenzo took fifth as the leading Yamaha, while Scott Redding was a strong sixth on his Pramac Ducati in front of factory rider Andrea Dovizioso.
Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi were both outside of the combined top 10 - and a guaranteed place in Q2 - as the chequered flag came out, but managed to squeeze in in eighth and 10th respectively, split by Aleix Espargaro.
Pol Espargaro and Danilo Petrucci were the best of those who will have to go through Q1. Alex Lowes, making his debut in place of the injured Bradley Smith, was 16th.
