Lorenzo not getting carried away despite 25-point lead in MotoGP standings

The Yamaha rider has now won four of the six races held so far in 2012, and has a points cushion over main rival Casey Stoner equivalent to a race win.

With Honda struggling to get to grips with Bridgestone's revised front tyre, Ducati still off the pace, and Lorenzo's team-mate Ben Spies not yet producing consistent form, the Spaniard is becoming an increasingly strong title favourite.

But Lorenzo said he was still trying to avoid complacency and not think too far ahead.

"Looking at the classification and the last three races, it may seem a bit easy. But for me, it wasn't," he said.

"It's better to have [a lead] than not have it, for sure. But it's not definitely [won]. It is only six races we have done. There are 12 more to be done. It's little by little and race by race."

Lorenzo still reckons Yamaha can find more speed, particularly from engine performance.

"We still need to improve some things, especially in the engine - which is still not so fast," he said. "But the corner speed is quite good, and that is why we are able to be with [Honda]."

Stoner also believes it is too soon to declare Lorenzo the title favourite - though he conceded that he could not afford to let the Yamaha rider get too much further ahead.

"In my opinion it's just too early [to think about the title]," said Stoner. "I'm more worried about our pace, to be honest. That's the thing that's disappointing me a lot.

"Championships can turn around in one race. The way Jorge's going, that's not going to happen, but one DNF [for Lorenzo] and one race win from me and we're equal on points and it's game on again.

"We don't know what can happen later on in the season but we've got to keep fighting to either close the gap or not let it increase."
