Injured Capirossi could miss British GP
Loris Capirossi's participation in the British Grand Prix is in doubt after the Suzuki rider sustained a hand injury in a collision with Alex de Angelis at Catalunya
The riders were battling for 10th place when they tangled and fell on lap 11.
Capirossi suffered a dislocated fracture of the fifth right metacarpus as well as a deep wound.
MotoGP doctor Claudio Costa has doubts about whether he will be fit enough to race at Donington Park in a fortnight.
"It was a disjointed fracture, a very ugly one I must add," Costa told Italia1 television.
"Fortunately it's been sorted out here at the Clinica Mobile. He wounded his little finger, so it's now getting a scotch cast."
Costa said that in theory, Capirossi would not be ready to compete in Britain, but he didn't rule out the possibility of the Italian shrugging off the injury and racing.
"Donington is impossible, while Assen is possible," said Costa.
"However, Loris in his life has always demonstrated he doesn't know what impossible means, just like that day at Assen, when with two hand fractures he raced and got on the podium."
Capirossi remained upbeat and paid tribute to the efforts of the paddock medics.
"They've done a great job, they're always good," he told Italia1.
"It's a bit of a strange, disjointed fracture, which they put back in line, with no surgery. I'm against surgery, so they've done a great job, they couldn't have done any better."
Although he was frustrated to end up with an injury, Capirossi felt the incident was a racing accident.
"These things happen in racing," he said. "Alex crashed into me and pushed me down. It's a shame because I got injured."
When asked about his mood following the injury, Capirossi replied: "Angry most of all, because the problem is that it's not as if I'll be back tomorrow. I'll have to suffer. Let's just say I'm used to it, but it's no consolation."
