Edwards hopes to end pole jinx

No rider has won from pole so far this season, but Edwards believes he and his Fiat Yamaha team are in good shape whether it is wet or dry tomorrow.

"Le Mans was a bit different with the conditions we have," he said, referring back to his disaster in France when he started from pole but tumbled down the order and was lapped three times in the race.

"Tomorrow rain or shine we are looking good. We probably had the cheapest fix on the planet to make the Michelin rain tyres work really good yesterday. I could tell you what that was, but I would have to kill you!

"So the rain tyres were looking really good and the race tyres I am happy with. The race tyres they brought are race tyres from Le Mans that I tested after Barcelona, and I feel really comfortable with them. So rain or shine tomorrow I think it is going to be a good race."

Edwards says his strong form at Donington Park was probably also helped by him returning to the same tyre selection choice as teammate Rossi.

"It is strange. I can blame my teammate all I want, because he is developing tyres for him, but the bikes are set up a little bit different and I can't seem to make them work.

"I kind of went off on a tangent developing something else for Michelin after Le Mans, and for two races we were separate. Now we are back on the good stuff and I am ready for tomorrow."

Edwards has called Michelin's qualifying tyres 'unbelievable' after helping teammate Valentino Rossi and himself lock out the front row.

"I've told you before, our bike on qualifiers is unbelievable. You put the qualifier on and turn the brain off a little bit but on half speed, and it all worked out."

And Edwards has cheekily suggested he got some inspiration from seeing his wife Lisa have a ride on the Ducati two-seater earlier in the day - which he had paid £2500 for.

"I think it was a very orgasmic experience," smiled Edwards. "I think I might get lucky tonight! But she enjoyed it, and it was a good day. And what a way to top it off with a pole..."
