Alex Rins cleared to race with injury in MotoGP Argentina

Suzuki rookie Alex Rins has been cleared to ride in this weekend's second MotoGP round of 2017 in Argentina, with a partially-fractured bone in his right ankle

Rins crashed during a motocross training ride last Wednesday, sustaining a partial fracture and swelling of the talus bone between the heel and lower leg.

While he is expecting to ride with pain, and Suzuki concedes the mobility in the ankle will not be 100%, Rins was cleared following medical checks earlier this week and has flown to Argentina, supported by a crutch.

The Spaniard's treatment on the joint, used to operate the rear brake, will continue throughout the week at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.

"It's not a bad injury but will require some time to recover," Rins said.

"I really hope it won't bother me too much with the pain, as I'm excited to continue learning in this class with my Suzuki."

Rins finished in ninth place as the top rookie in his MotoGP debut in Qatar, where team-mate Andrea Iannone crashed out of third place mid-race.

The Italian, who joins Suzuki in 2017 from Ducati, has said he wants that accident to be his "first and last" of the campaign.

"I don't want to hide that I want to redeem myself after the disappointment in Qatar," he said.

"Argentina can be a favourable track for us and I like it very much.

"It's technical and fast, and I like this. I hope the track conditions will be good.

"Usually it has a lot of dirt and takes some time to develop a good grip.

"I hope this year it will be better."
