Aldeguer suffers leg fracture in MotoGP training crash

Fermin Aldeguer will undergo surgery after he was injured in a training crash just weeks before the start of official MotoGP testing

Gresini MotoGP sophomore Fermin Aldeguer has suffered an injury while training on a Ducati Panigale at the Aspar Circuit in Valencia.

In a test organised by world champion Marc Marquez, a group of MotoGP riders gathered in Spain this week for two days of testing in preparation for the 2026 season.

In addition to Marc and his brother Alex Marquez, both riding a modified street-legal Ducati Panigale V2, 2025 Rookie of the Year Aldeguer was also at the Guadassuar circuit, owned by Jorge Martinez Aspar.

On the first day of the two-day test, the 20-year-old suffered a spectacular crash and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. In a brief statement on social media, Gresini said that Aldeguer "sustained a fracture to the shaft of his left femur during a training session in Valencia and is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow in Barcelona."

Based on photos circulating online, Aldeguer was training on a Yamaha R6, as Ducati had not provided him with a bike for practice. The R6 is a 600cc sport bike that produces 140bhp and is used by many other riders for training.

Aldeguer will be transferred to the Hospital Universitari Dexeus, part of the Quironsalud Group, in Barcelona, where he is expected to undergo surgery as early as this afternoon or, at the latest, Friday morning.

Following the surgery, the Spaniard will face a race against time to complete rehabilitation and be ready for the start of pre-season, which kicks off on 3 February in Sepang with the first winter tests.

There are 20 days until then which the rider from Murcia will have to make the most of if he doesn’t want to miss the start of the crucial Sepang test, which will run until 5 February.

The second pre-season test will be held in Buriram, Thailand, on 21-22 February.
