125cc: Di Meglio takes provisional pole

Mike Di Meglio took provisional pole position for this weekend's 125cc race at Estoril in Portugal on Friday

The Ajo Motorsport rider moved to the top of the timesheets with just seven minutes of the session remaining, and then went even quicker on his following lap to set an unbeatable time of 1:47.990.

His nearest challenge was Nicolas Terol on the Jack & Jones WRB machine, setting his best effort on the final lap of the session, to just edge out Michael Ranseder and championship leader Simone Corsi.

But the man kicking himself the most was Japan's Tomoyoshi Koyama, who had gone second quickest in the closing minutes of the session and then looked set to better that performance when he fell late in the lap. He had dropped to fifth by the chequered flag.

There was disappointment for Briton Bradley Smith on the Polaris World bike, having been on pole position for the first two races of the season. He ended up 22nd overall, more than two seconds off the pace.
