Will Power and Rahal team among Fontana IndyCar penalties

Reigning IndyCar champion Will Power has been fined $25,000 and placed on probation until the end of the year for pushing a track worker after his Fontana crash last weekend

Power was determined to be in breach of rules 9.3.1 (improper conduct) and 9.3.1.8 (improper conduct; using improper, profane or disparaging language or gestures in reference to any official) for shoving a member of the safety crew.

The incident occurred as the crew member was attempting to lead Power towards the medical car after he had climbed out of his wreckage following his collision with Takuma Sato.

The Team Penske driver later issued a public apology via Twitter, and said that he had also apologised to the track worker in person.

Meanwhile, race winner Graham Rahal's Rahal Letterman Lanigan team was fined $10,000 (with $5,000 suspended) for a pit safety violation after Rahal was waved out of his final stop while the fuel nozzle was still attached to his car.

The nozzle fell out shortly afterwards, prompting a caution period for debris.

In addition, the RLL crew member responsible for refuelling was placed on probation until the end of the year.

Elsewhere, Dale Coyne Racing's Tristan Vautier was also fined $10,000 and placed on probation until the end of the year for a pit safety violation after he missed his marks and hit a DCR crew member.

Owen Trower, who was the front-left tyre changer on Vautier's car, escaped serious injury.

He was the third DCR crew member to be hit by one of the team's cars this year.

Other minor financial penalties were handed out to Schmidt Peterson Motorsport, CFH Racing and Andretti Autosport for lower-level breaches of the pitlane rules.
