Wheldon changes his colours
Britain's Dan Wheldon has a new number, a new uniform and a new sponsor for this weekend's season finale at Texas Motor Speedway, but he hasn't made a late change of teams
Wheldon is still with Andretti Green Racing - only the details have changed. Dan has inherited the No. 7 used earlier this season by team co-owner Michael Andretti, who retired after the Indianapolis 500. It's part of a promotion by sponsor 7-Eleven to put its colours and logo on two cars at Texas.
"It's a unique position to be in - running Michael's number and Michael's car, so to speak," said Wheldon, who had sported No. 26 throughout the season. "I have to say, when I came into the pits the first time, I couldn't find my number. One of the boys had to remind me over the radio that I was No. 7 this weekend."
He's also in the middle of a battle with Roger Yasukawa for rookie of the year in the IRL IndyCar Series. Yasukawa is just four points ahead of Wheldon heading into Sunday's Chevy 500. The driver with the highest finish in the race most likely will win the award.
Yasukawa had the fastest lap during the morning practice session on Saturday, while Hornish was fastest in the final session before Sunday's race.
"We can run pretty much anywhere we want to," said Hornish, who has won the last two IRL races and three of the last five. "We have a pretty good race car, and it showed in the last session."
