Vasser to race at Long Beach

Champ Car veteran Jimmy Vasser will return to the cockpit for the last ever Champ Car race at Long Beach later this month

The 1996 champion, who now co-owns the KV Racing team, will field a third car for himself at the event alongside his regular drivers Oriol Servia and Will Power on April 20.

"I've been out of the car for two years so I don't expect to be fighting for victory," he said, "but it will be a lot of fun and a great honour to take part in the final Champ Car race.

"It will also be great to compete in front of all the southern Californian fans that have been so supportive of me throughout my career."

Vasser won the Grand Prix of Long Beach, which is his home event, in his title winning season in 1996, and also holds the record for the most Champ Car starts - currently 211.

The Long Beach race will award points which will count towards this season's reunified IndyCar Series standings.
