Taylor given Panther test chance
Newly-crowned Infiniti Pro Series champion Mark Taylor has been rewarded by the Panther Racing squad with a test in one of the team's Indy Racing League Dallara-Chevrolet IndyCars at Texas Motor Speedway next Wednesday, October 1
Taylor, who drives for Panther in IPS, is under serious consideration to replace Sam Hornish Jr, who moves to Penske, in Panther's two-car IRL line-up next season. There is even the possibility that 25-year-old Englishman may be drafted into the final round of this year's series at Texas as back-up for reigning champion Hornish as he tries to win his third consecutive title.
"It's great to have the opportunity to drive the car," said Taylor. "I am hoping to get as much experience in the car as possible. This is the reason I came into the IPS in the first place and I'm sure the extra power will be something to experience."
Panther Racing's CEO John Barnes commented: "Mark has had an outstanding season in IPS and his accomplishments really shine when you consider he had never driven an oval race prior to coming to the IPS series. Mark is very talented and I know the guys are anxious to give him some seat-time in the IndyCar."
Panther has a history of promoting young drivers. The team gave Hornish his break in to frontline international motorsport and last year prepared a second car for reserve driver Dan Wheldon to compete in the last three races of the season.
