Schmidt to run Hearn at Chicagoland

Sam Schmidt Motorsports will run former CART star Richie Hearn in this weekend's Indy Racing League event at Chicagoland Speedway

A former IRL race winner, Hearn raced for the team in a one-off earlier in the season at Pikes Peak and will make his second start in place of Alex Barron this weekend.

"I'm obviously excited to have this opportunity," said Hearn. "The last time I raced on a 1.5-mile track was the last time I won in Las Vegas. Getting a good finish will be important as we head into next season."

Hearn will then give up the #99 car for the Texas finale, making way for Anthony Lazzaro, who made his IRL debut in a second Schmidt car at Gateway last weekend. Schmidt will scale down to a one-car operation for the remainder of the season.

"I'm happy to have both Richie and Anthony in the seat," said Schmidt. "I know that the team is capable, I know that the drivers are capable, it's just a matter of time and money."
