Rookies get their Indy tickets
Mark Taylor, Ed Carpenter, Kosuke Matsuura and Luis Diaz have passed all four stages of the Indianapolis 500 rookie test and a further two drivers are three-quarters of the way there and cleared to test at the circuit this week and in May, when they can complete the programme
The six newcomers had to run laps at 195-200mph, then 200-205mph; 205-210mph and finally over 210mph.
"Thirty or 40 miles an hour is a pretty big change compared to how it was in the Infiniti," said Englishman Taylor, the reigning Infiniti Pro Series Champion, who has a top drive with his regular Panther Racing IRL squad. "Getting used to it, you gradually build the speed up. The thing is, with the high speed that you have, you've just got to get used to the speed."
The two, who still have to complete the final stage of the test are Marty Roth and Jeff Simmons and they are cleared to continue testing at the Brickyard this week and in May, when they can complete the programme.
