Qualifying: De Ferran takes pole
Gil de Ferran has claimed pole position for the Radisson Indy 225 at Pikes Peak. The reigning CART champion clocked a lap of 177.988mph on the 1 mile oval to fend off a strong challenge from Penske team-mate Helio Castroneves
Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves has had the legs of his fellow Brazilian for most of the season, but the former F3000 race winner managed to edge ahead during his last run.
2001 IRL rookie of the year Felipe Giaffone and reigning IRL champion Sam Hornish Jnr will start from the second row of the grid for tomorrow's race.
Jeff Ward, who triumphed in the closest finish in IRL history at Texas last week, could only manage seventh.
