Pole winner Junqueira crashes
Indianapolis 500 pole winner Bruno Junqueira has crashed his race car at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The Brazilian was heading into the pits at 12.40pm during Thursday's practice when his Ganassi G-Force-Chevrolet snapped into a spin and nearly hit the pit wall. It spun backwards across the front straight and backed into the outer wall.
"I was coming into the pits a little too fast, and the brakes locked up on me," Junqueira recounted. "I was going too fast, so I tried to get back out on the track, and the car just came around.
"Luckily, the car was not damaged that badly, and we'll be fine for the next two weeks. We did some race simulation laps this morning and the car is pretty good in race trim. I can't wait to get back in the car."
Junqueira was second fastest on the day at 226.6mph at the time of the accident. He was uninjured and the damage to the car was not that extensive.
Rain is expected within the hour in Indianapolis. Greg Ray is fastest so far on the day at 227.291mph.
