Mike Conway could extend one-race IndyCar deal with RLL
Mike Conway is optimistic of adding more races to his 2013 portfolio following yesterday's announcement of his deal to race a second Rahal Letterman Lanigan entry at Long Beach in April
The Briton from IndyCar prior to last year's final round at Fontana after deciding that he no longer wished to race on ovals.
He insisted at the time however that he still wanted to remain in the series if he could secure a deal to run on the street and road courses.
That wish was granted with the confirmation of his deal to run at Long Beach, where he won with Andretti in 2011, and Conway told AUTOSPORT that he is hopeful that more races will follow.
"I want to do more races with Rahal, for sure," he said. "That's something we're working on right now.
"Being able to race at Long Beach is a great opportunity to go back to a track that I've won at before, and obviously with a good team in Rahal, a good team-mate, and some good people that I have worked with before.
"I'm looking forward to just working hard over the next few months to really make sure that we hit the ground running and have a good race at Long Beach.
"It's one race at the moment and we're working on some more, but we'll see over the next couple of months what happens. It's a good start."
Team co-owner Bobby Rahal said yesterday that he is aiming to give Conway a test ahead of the race, but in the meantime the 29-year-old will attend the team's first outing of the year with Graham Rahal at Sebring on February 19.
"I'm going to attend the first test down at Sebring just to watch, and obviously to get to know the team a bit better; see how they work and operate, and start working with Graham [Rahal] and my engineer a little bit," Conway said.
"That will be good. But obviously I'd love to get into the car before Long Beach just to feel the car out and blow out the cobwebs.
"I've been doing stuff to keep sharp over the winter anyway, but it is always nice to get in the car, get comfortable, and know once you arrive for the race weekend that there shouldn't be any issues in terms of comfort or handling or anything like that.
"It would be nice to get some running, and that's what we're working on."
