Medeiros best in IPS Test

Points leader Thiago Medeiros led the way in an Infiniti Pro Series test at Milwaukee yesterday. The Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver was comfortably quickest with a lap speed of 144.629mph

Medeiros's biggest rival Phil Giebler stood down for this one as his Keith Duesenberg Racing team tested Al Unser - son of Al Jr and grandson of Al Sr - and Ross Fonferko. The team has run just one car for Giebler so far, but will add another to its strength for the next round at Kansas on July 3.

Jesse Mason was second fastest at 142.260mph for Brian Stewart Racing while third quickest Arie Luyendyk Jr (142.069mph) lost track time after hitting the wall. Mo Nunn Racing's new recruit PJ Chesson also crashed, after setting a best lap at 140.899mph.

Unser was the quicker of Duesenberg's charges, both of whom expressed an interest in continuing with the team.

"Today went great," said Unser. "Really it's my first test day in the car. I did my Rookie Test down in Kentucky. Here in Milwaukee you really have to drive the car, you have to lift going into the corner, you have to have car feel. I hope to work with Keith Duesenberg. I really am liking the series and liking the cars."
