Kanaan Goes After Title

Reigning Champion Tony Kanaan has warned his Andretti-Green Racing teammate Dan Wheldon that he has now got a fight on his hands for the Indy Racing League title

Kanaan was able to close down Wheldon's points advantage to just 79 points by winning at Infineon Raceway on Sunday, as his British rival was forced out of the race with a fuel-line problem.

Speaking after the race, Kanaan admitted that he now believes he has the possibility to retain his crown this year - although knows he will have to win the final three races of the season to have a realistic chance.

"I've had bad days, and he capitalised a lot on that this year," said Kanaan about the points situation between himself and Wheldon. "This is the way the race is.

"I don't know how many points I'm behind him, 80, 70, something, but I was in the exact same position three races to go last year, so I know what it takes. And he knows what is takes, because he was chasing for me.

"What I care about right now is to win more races. I know I have to win every race to the end of the year to be able to win this Championship. That's what I'm going to go for. If I can't do it, I can't do it. I'll definitely try my best."
