IRL veterans return to Indy

Panther Racing has confirmed its intention to run a two-car team at this year's Indianapolis 500 by filing an entry for out-of-work IRL IndyCar Series driver Billy Boat to run alongside reigning champion Sam Hornish Jr

Boat was polesitter for the 1998 Indy 500 and won a race at the Texas Motor Speedway but has since struggled to attain the same success. Indeed he spent the last two years sitting on the "bubble" during extended Bump Day qualifying, waiting anxiously to see if he would make the race.

Mo Nunn Racing will also run an extra car at Indy for two-time winner Arie Luyendyk, who will team-up alongside squad regulars Felipe Giaffone and Tora Takaga. It will be the Dutchman's 18th attempt at the classic race.

"The last time I ran Indy with Morris," said Luyendyk, "I started on the pole and finished second, so this time I hope to reverse those positions."

Luyendyk won the race in 1990 with Ganassi and then again in 1997 with Treadway Racing, the team he has raced with for the last six years. His qualifying lap of 236.986mph to set pole for the 1996, still stands as the lap record.
