Honda vows to be impartial
Honda officials have vowed to provide the entire IRL grid with identical equipment next season - with no favoured teams
The Japanese car giant announced this week it will supply every car on the grid next year following Toyota and Chevrolet's withdrawal from the series, and will put an end to stronger relationships with some teams that has existed in the past.
IRL organisers will be given the serial numbers of all engines Honda has made available on a race weekend, and they will randomly allocate the engine units to the teams to ensure fairness.
"All teams will have exactly the same program," said Robert Clarke, president of Honda Performance Development. "We've outlined a program where basically the engines will be serviced at both HPD and Ilmor.
"Those engines will be shipped and held as a pool of engines. The IRL will basically, from a list of engines that are in the pool, select engines and randomly provide them to the teams.
"There's no chance of any partial treatment. The actual delivery will be through Honda. The selection of the engine, based on a serial number, will be through the IRL."
