Franchitti's first IRL win
Scotland's Dario Franchitti dominated the second half of the Menards AJ Foyt Indy 225 at the Milwaukee Mile to win his first-ever IRL IndyCar Series win
Andretti Green Racing has won six out of nine races this year, following on from Tony Kanaan's victory last weekend at Nashville. Franchitti survived a late sprint to the flag after Jaques Lazier crashed late on to cause a late caution period.
"Dario did an awesome job today," said team boss Michael Andretti. "I'm so happy that three of our four cars have been in Victory Lane this year, we've just got one more [Bryan Herta] to go."
Franchitti, who missed most of last season after a motorbike accident, said: "This win means a lot. Taking last year off was really difficult. I'm just glad to be back driving the car and pleased everyone kept faith in me. What has been frustrating it that we've been quick this year, but we haven't had the result until now."
Buddy Rice (Rahal Letterman) overcame Sam Hornish Jr (Team Penske) in the late stages to finish second. Early leaders Tony Kanaan (AGR) and Vitor Meira (Rahal Letterman) were fourth and fifth.
"Finishing second is great for the points," said Rice. "Both Dario and I were struggling in turns one and two but quick in three and four. I needed it to stay green to get a good run at him."
Kanaan said: "I'm extremely happy. Dario deserved that, he's one of the reasons I'm with this team - I love the guy! As long as we keep winning, I'll continue to be happy."
It wasn't a good day for the other Brits. Title contender Dan Wheldon (Andretti Green Racing) was forced out with a broken driveshaft moments after Darren Manning (Chip Ganassi Racing) had crashed out without injury. Mark Taylor finished 14th in his Access-run machine.
