Franchitti back in cockpit for Pikes Peak
Dario Franchitti will return to the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series at Pikes Peak International Raceway on Sunday after missing three races, including the Indianapolis 500, through a back injury sustained in a motorcycle accident in April
The 30-year-old Scot's return means that Andretti Green Racing stand-in Bryan Herta may move back to the CART Champ Car World Series where the Californian has been linked to a drive with PK Racing in place of Frenchman Patrick Lemarie. Saturday morning's practice session will mark the first time Franchitti has driven a car since the second round of the series at Phoenix on March 23.
"I'm very excited to be getting back into the car," said Franchitti. "It has been a long ten weeks. It was very hard being at the race track and not being able to drive the car. I'm really looking forward to working with my guys again; they did a fantastic job while I was gone. Now we are just going to concentrate on winning some races."
Team manager Kyle Moyer said "We are really happy to have Dario back in the car. This crew has been together for a couple of years working with Dario and I'm sure he is going to get right back in the groove. Even though he wasn't driving, Dario has been at the track working with Tony Kanaan, Dan Wheldon and Bryan Herta, listening to their feedback and helping to improve the car."
