De Ferran completes Toyota test
Gil de Ferran put more than 400 miles on Toyota's IRL engine around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during tests on Wednesday and Thursday
The Brazilian used a 2002 Dallara chassis fitted with the development motor as he returned to the cockpit for the first time since suffering concussion in a shunt at Chicagoland on September 8.
"It's going well from two standpoints," said de Ferran. "I very happy to be here, it's nice to be back on the horse again. And secondly to be the first guy to drive (the) Toyota engine around this track is a privilege. Things are going well."
No times were released, but Toyota's John Faivre was pleased with the work that had been done.
"We're just really happy to be here," he said. "Indy is our main focus, and the test is going really well. We're obviously new to the IRL, and this engine is new for us, so I think we have a long way to go to catch up to what the other guys are doing, but I think we'll get there."
