Dare returns to Indy with Schmidt
Experienced Indy 500 competitor Airton Dare has signed to compete in this year's race in the Number 88 car entered by Sam Schmidt Motorsports
The Brazilian's best finish in his four attempts was eighth in 2001, and he last competed in the race back in 2003 driving for AJ Foyt. He crashed out during the race.
"For me, it's a dream come true to be back," Dare said. "When I had that accident in 2003 driving A.J. Foyt's car and I went back to Brazil to drive stock cars, I thought I'd never come back here.
"I went to the Homestead race this year to see some guys, and then we started to try to put together a deal to come to Indy, and with everybody having the same motors that was a plus for us: it makes it more interesting.
"Sam is a guy I respect a lot, and it seems like he respects me too. The entire team at Sam Schmidt Motorsports is very experienced and has been working 24/7 for the past week to get out on the track."
Dare will make his track debut today, in the second day of official Indy 500 practice.
