Barron aims for fulltime drive in '04
IRL IndyCar Series supersub Alex Barron hopes that victory in Sunday's race at Michigan will lead to a fulltime ride in the 2004 series
Barron scored the narrowest recorded win at the Michigan track, the fourth closest in IRL history, at 0.0121secs over Sam Hornish. He is currently filling in for Felipe Giaffone, who was injured in a race earlier this season.
"I'm trying to get into a fulltime ride and go after a championship in 2004," said Barron. "You need to have results like this in order to get in a good car the following season. There's always phone calls going around. It's definitely drummed up a lot of interest. It can change some of the things going on for the following season. Right now, I have a job with Mo Nunn Racing with the Hollywood car."
Barron even escaped a mid-race spin, but kept the car out of the wall and recovered to score a famous victory for Mo Nunn Racing.
"We just need to make sure when we go out here in St. Louis we try to do the same thing," Barron said. "Only good things can come if you have success."
