Moves like that - and there's more to come - cemented Ricciardo's reputation as one of the most exciting overtakers in F1.
Ricciardo dives by Hamilton at the hairpin - what a move to take third!
Replays confirm there was no contact between Hamilton and Verstappen, who was just slightly too ambitious trying to hang on around the outside of the Mercedes at that super-fast part of the track.

"Let's get him!" Ricciardo is told by Red Bull.
Verstappen was able to keep his car planted on the runoff, but the off gives Ricciardo a free pass into P4.
Crash
Verstappen attacks Hamilton into Turn 7 - but he has a moment and goes off!
Verstappen is now harrying Hamilton for third, with Ricciardo already in play for the podium places too.
Ricciardo zooms up to the back of Raikkonen down the back straight and DRS-less-ly takes P5 into the hairpin.
Ricciardo has a first half look at Raikkonen into Turn 6 - but he can't find a way by, yet...
Bottas has dropped Vettel - as the Ferrari driver did in reverse in the early laps.
Gasly gets a 10s time penalty for hitting Hartley.
So, lap 36 of 56, and Bottas leads Vettel from Hamilton and Verstappen, with Raikkonen and Ricciardo further back - but the two Red Bulls have the tyre advantage.
Green flag
Restart - Bottas holds the lead as Vettel makes a small mistake at the hairpin.
Ferrari coaches Vettel through the restart procedure - and where the safety car line sits before the final corner - as the safety car heads back into the pits.

"Is it me or have I got a bunch of cars that have got new tyres on behind me?" Hamilton, realising how much trouble he's about to be in, asks Mercedes.

"Lapped cars can now overtake," Haas tells Magnussen, who wastes no time replying: "Yeah, but there's no lapped cars behind me."
"Ok... good point," is the response.

Still no sign of the safety car coming in.

Replays show Verstappen muscling his way past Gasly as he shot into the pits - he wasn't taking any prisoners there!
Bottas and Vettel were too far ahead to come in when the safety car was called, but Hamilton and Raikkonen will later rue not being called in by Mercedes and Ferrari respectively.
Red Bull is at it again - the team double stacks Verstappen and Ricciardo to put their cars onto fresh soft tyres.
Yellow flag
Safety car deployed! It's almost as if we researched this race before the re-run started...
Bold prediction - that debris will change the race.
But that did look very clumsy from Gasly, and there's a lot of debris strewn over the track as a result.
It will later been explained that this was a team order switch gone wrong - the team expected Gasly to go by, which Hartley was apparently trying to do on the exit of the the corner.
Gasly locked up at the apex and turned Hartley around.
Yellow flag
The Toro Rossos have collided at the hairpin!
Leclerc spins at Turn 2 and slides into the gravel but he's able to rejoin, although he will have picked up floor damage that will hamper him to the end.
At the halfway stage, its Bottas and Mercedes that look like the favourites to win this race, although early leader Vettel still looks threatening. No one else can get close, not Verstappen, not Hamilton and certainly not Ricciardo, who will absolutely not win this race...
Raikkonen now pits - but his race is completely ruined, as he now runs sixth when he had been fourth.
Vettel is now all over the back of Bottas, he's just 0.6s adrift.
Some nice number two driver-ing from Raikkonen, there.
Bottas passes Raikkonen around the outside of Turn 2/the inside of Turn 3 - with Raikkonen dutifully then letting Vettel by and having a little half look to put of Bottas at Turn 5 for good measure!

Replays show Vandoorne and Stroll very nearly colliding at the Turn 3 switch back, which, as this irreverent feature explains, is why the Shanghai track probably can't be run in reverse using F1 cars. 
Magnussen pits from P7 for Haas.
Bottas is homing in on Raikkonen, who will now be expected to hold up the Mercedes and give Vettel a chance to retake the lead.
Bottas now heads Vettel in P2/3, ahead of Verstappen, Hamilton, Ricciardo and the long-running Magnussen.
So, Raikkonen leads, but only because Ferrari is about to sacrifice his race completely.

Here's the full explanation of how Bottas was able to jump Vettel, who had been completely controlling the race up until those stops, from the 19 April 2018 edition of Autosport magazine: "A combination of a decent in-lap, the quickest pitstop of the race and a storming out-lap on which he set the fastest second and third sectors of the race so far allowed Bottas to take the lead."
