Smith set for full season in Johansson Audi
Sportscar driver Guy Smith looks set to partner Stefan Johansson for a full season of the European Le Mans Series behind the wheel of the Gulf-backed privateer Audi R8
Smith, who will drive for Bentley at this year's Le Mans, is to partner Johansson at this weekend's Sebring 12-hour race, which is the opening round of the this year's ELMS and round two for its sister series, the ALMS.
Smith drove for Johansson's team last year in a Reynard chassis and despite the fact that the Brit says the Sebring race is a one-off, he is the favourite to complete the season in the car.
"It's just a one-off at the moment, because we had to get something sorted out quickly," said Smith. "The intention is to do the rest of the year. It is great to get my hands on the car which gave us a hiding last year."
Johansson has admitted that all the required funds for a full season are not yet in place, but the Swede would like to ink a deal to keep Smith in the car for the whole year.
"We'd like it to happen, but there are a few things to fall into place yet," said Johanssson. "We did the deal for this weekend because we know each other well, but the plan is that we will stay together."
Former Formula 1 driver Johansson got his season off to a flying start by topping the times on the first day of practice at Sebring on Monday, but dropped to fourth on the yesterday (Tuesday).
